Ian Arnold
As an Associate Expert with Risk Sciences International, Dr. Arnold brings clinical depth and field experience to RSI’s work in occupational health risk assessment and workplace safety policy development. He provides expert insight on topics such as exposure-related health outcomes, physical and psychological stressors in industrial settings, and the integration of clinical data into population-level risk models.
Dr. Arnold’s background in both hands-on surgical care and preventive occupational health enables him to uniquely bridge clinical, regulatory, and operational perspectives—a valuable asset to RSI projects involving high-risk work environments, critical infrastructure, or long-term worker health surveillance.
Pre-RSI
Dr. Ian Arnold is a seasoned physician and occupational health consultant with more than five decades of experience spanning clinical practice, industrial health, academic instruction, and policy development. After completing his medical degree at Queen’s University in 1968, Dr. Arnold served as a general surgeon and occupational health consultant in remote regions of Canada, notably Labrador and Nouveau Québec, from 1973 to 1981. During this time, he supported mining operations including Quebec Cartier Mining Ltd and the Iron Ore Company of Canada, where he developed practical insights into the health risks and operational realities of industrial and resource-sector workforces.
Dr. Arnold has also been deeply engaged in advancing knowledge and practice in occupational medicine, especially in the areas of workplace mental health, hazard exposure, and psychological safety. He has published or presented more than 100 papers, contributing to the national and international conversation on occupational health standards, system-based safety, and employee wellbeing.

Dr. Arnold has held academic appointments across several Canadian Faculties of Medicine, reflecting his long-standing commitment to medical education. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at McGill University, where he continues to share his expertise with future physicians and occupational health professionals.
