Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)

CITES is a multilateral treaty aimed at ensuring international trade in wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. Established in 1975, it regulates trade in over 38,000 species through a licensing system. The treaty is administered by the UN Environment Programme.
