FDA approves Pfizer vaccine

Today, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine won full approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Pfizer vaccine thus becomes the first to be granted full approval by the U.S. drug regulator.

Since December 2020, the two-dose vaccine had been operating with an emergency-use authorization. Today’s approval makes it fully approved for anyone 16 and older.

Hoping to overcome vaccine hesitancy, President Biden took to Twitter: “This FDA approval should give added confidence that this vaccine is safe and effective.”

The U.S. military quickly announced that it is preparing to make the vaccine mandatory for all U.S. military personnel. It is also hoped that multiple state and local governments, along with private employers, will now be willing to impose vaccine mandates.
