District of Columbia and region start lockdown

Despite downplaying by Federal authorities, the Mayor of Washington D.C. and the governors of Maryland and Virginia agree to a shutdown.

Very quickly, signs begin appearing in stores throughout the Capital District region. At this point, many stores believe that they will be closed for only one or two weeks and say so in their signs. This will soon change.

The closing of the Capital region goes viral and sends a signal to the rest of the world despite the President’s belittling of the crisis.
