The Initiative:
Back to Fitness
Date(s) and Location(s):
The Back to Fitness 2024 celebration is taking place on Sunday 22 September 2023 at the University of Ottawa's University Square.
Goal(s):
The COVID-19 pandemic caused a long list of tragedies, ills and consequences. One such consequence was the lockdowns and the consequent reduced opportunity and motivation to exercise, whether at home, outdoors or in the often-closed gyms. As Canada moved past its 18-month marker, two RSI staff came up with the idea of Back to Fitness events to promote a commitment to one's best fitness efforts.

Thank you Ottawa
You joined us in 2021!
And then again in 2022!
And again in 2023!
One more in 2024!
In 2021, over two hundred and fifty people joined in with Ottawa's top Zumba instructors ZINโข Shane Scatliffe, ZINโข Carr Evans and ZINโข Martha Rengifo, RSI's own ZINโข Daniel Krewski, and others, to celebrate a renewed commitment to health and fitness.
In 2022, we did it all over again. Thank you to those who joined us at the University of Ottawa's University Square on Saturday 17 September 2022 at 14:30 for a 75-minute Zumba Master Class with Ottawa instructors Daniel, Iryna, Shane and Sharon with international guest instructor Silvia direct from Mexico. And thank you for joining us again for the RSI co-sponsored Zumba on the Field at Ottawa's TD Place on Sunday, 25 September 2022.
And yes, in 2023 on Sunday, 17 September 2023 at 2:00 PM, we were on stage. We hope you joined us.

In the interests of promoting public health and fitness, RSI Chief Risk Scientist and uOttawa Professor Emeritus Daniel Krewski and colleagues organized the first Back to Fitness events in 2021. The video above includes highlights of the two 2021 Back to Fitness events.
And below, is our 2022 highlight reel, again featuring the teams at the University of Ottawa and TD Place.
The best corporate social responsibility projects are those where a need intersects a passion. RSI's staff is generally conscious of the importance of fitness with Todd Ruthman being an avid cyclist, Cemil Alyanak the martial arts, and Michael G. Tyshenko an accomplished triathlete. Our Chief Risk Scientist is also a fitness aficionado, in his case his joy comes from Zumba. In fact, Daniel Krewski is an accomplished, certified Zumba instructor and CanFitPro Fitness Instructor Specialist, which is how our Back to Fitness campaign was born.
